We continue our rubric "Plan D" wherein famous Ukrainian designer Yuriy Zimenko explains how to choose right art works for the interior. If you ask yourself such questions at least once, then these tips will certainly help you.
Many believe that primarily the paintings in the interior are an indicator of the social status of the people. In fact, with competently work of the designer and the client the painting are the main and the final point in the creation of the project. They have to become the soul of the interior, to show outlook on life of those people who will live in these apartment or house.
Selection of paintings is much more deep and delicate work than the design itself. You could even say that it is an intimate work, which can be compared with the work of psycho - therapist or art - therapist.
From the first phase of work on the interior with a client (it is the definition of style, preferences in colors, textures and detailing), you can and should ask the client about his painting’ and art’ preferences.
The designer begins to see the image of the perfect picture at this point. No, it is not necessary to paint the picture only for the client. Designer’s vision of the picture is identified by the specific requirements of this particular interior and, most importantly, is the level of painting and the artist's talent, which should never be neglected. When it all comes together, you feel perfection from the first second, when the client and the picture are met in the interior, everything goes without saying. Thereby, the revelation, after which none of us can’t understand why this work has appeared here just now, takes place.
Painting must not repeat or overlap with the interior, painting should be harmonious and consonant with every detail. But that doesn’t mean copying the colors or textures of the interior; vice versa, you shouldn’t do similar things. Only a small brushstroke of the right shade on the picture can make the interior and painting work together.
“Every interior requires a certain style of painting, but it doesn’t mean that only contemporary art can live in modern interiors and those people who collect antiques, should put contemporary art under the bed”
You can overdo with art, so the intercalation of art works should be correct, you need to understand that you create a style and comfort for the individual.
Art critics of the Sotheby's auction house define very interesting criteria by which people prefer to choose the paintings, and it often works.
What these criteria are? For example, the calm sea is more attractive than the storm sea both for interior and for life, still life paintings with flowers or fruitpiece are more interesting than with wildfowl, or that the brown and dark colors may scare the client, so it’s better to use juicy and bright colors.
Of course, all this should be borne in mind while you’re picking up the paintings in the interior, but, more importantly, don’t run to an extreme. Every interior requires a certain style of painting, but it doesn’t mean that only contemporary art can live in modern interiors and those people who collect antiques, should put contemporary art under the bed.
Life of paintings in the interior is not just a pretty picture, but also the harmony, the integrity of the very last moment. With the help of painting you make a decision: to put point, exclamation mark or three dots in the interior. All this is read at a glance.
